Rams sign three more draft picks

With the start of training camp just two days away, the Rams are getting a
handle on their draft class of 2006. Three additional draft picks signed
contracts Monday: fourth-round defensive end Victor Adeyanju of Indiana; and
seventh-rounders Timothy McGarigle and Tony Palmer.

McGarigle is a linebacker from Northwestern; Palmer is an offensive guard from
Missouri. Adeyanju should fit right into the defensive line rotation, most
likely spelling Leonard Little. McGarigle and Palmer will compete for roster
spots as backups. Contract terms weren't immediately available Wednesday
evening, but all three contracts are believed to be three-year deals.

Players who are not under contract, whether rookies or veterans, are not
allowed to participate in training camp. So coach Scott Linehan was obviously
pleased to get three more rookies signed.

"We gained a little momentum," he said Monday. "I wouldn't be surprised if some
of the 'first-day' guys start to fall."

Including guard Mark Setterstrom, a seventh-rounder from Minnesota who signed
last week, four of the Rams' 10 draft picks are under contract. The only
second-day selection who remained unsigned as of Monday evening was
fifth-rounder Marques Hagans, a wide receiver-return specialist from Virginia.

In another roster move, the team released tight end Jonathan Williams, an
undrafted rookie from New Hampshire. There will be additional roster tinkering
between now and the start of training camp Thursday, with the team allowed to
take 80 players into camp, plus any NFL Europe exemptions.

A decision will be made soon on linebacker Trev Faulk, who underwent back
surgery for a herniated disc in late spring. Pending results of a physical, he
could end up on the injured reserve or physically-unable-to-perform list.
Linehan said the club will wait until the results of Marshall Faulk's upcoming
knee surgery before deciding on any roster designation for him.

The Rams also are expected to release a quarterback before the start of camp,
most likely either Ryan Fitzpatrick or Jeff Smoker.
